Your primary concern while you’re link building should be the quality of the links. Because the quality of the link is an important factor which can manipulate your rank in search engines. It’s better if a website with a good amount of daily traffic links you than it is, if a website with a low / no traffic links you. If the website you link from is having a high PR, then it’s always good for you. The higher the PR of the backlink is, the better it is. There’s no point in linking to your site from a low quality site because thousands of websites are being made for the sole purpose of link building. These links will just be considered as garbage and will not have effects on your ranking.

2. Relevancy:

The relevancy of your link matters a lot in link building. Links that are irrelevant to your niche counts too, but when a site in the similar niche links to your site, it’s better. For example, the link is relevant if a food blog links to another food blog. But it’s not relevant when a food blog links to an interior decoration website. Always try to build links from similar niche sites rather than irrelevant sites.

3. Consistency:

Being consistent while link-building is really necessary. If you start building links aggressively for one week and then does nothing, it’s not going to help you. Link building should be a natural process which is to be done gradually and consistently. It’s ideal if you build 5-10 links to your website daily. Don’t build links too aggressively, because it may affect your site’s ranking negatively.

4. Anchor Text:

This is yet another important factor which is to be taken care of, while you’re building backlinks. Anchor text is the text on which visitors click to go to your site. Try to have your main keyword as your anchor text; because it will help you rank for that keyword. A bad practice would be to have ‘Click Here’ text as the anchor text for a link. It really doesn’t add any value and doesn’t give an idea to a visitor what the link is leading to.

5. Social Media Votes:

Social media votes also count in search engines. For making advantage of this, try to get more votes on social media websites like Digg, StumbleUpon, Google Plus etc. Getting +1s on Google plus will help you even more, because you will get a ranking boost on search engines. This can help you build backlinks to your site and can help you gain traffic as well. If you’re able to make your post go viral, then it’s always good for getting backlinks. Because people will automatically start linking to your content if it’s awesome. Find out which social network works best for you. What works for you may not work for the other. Always have an engaging Facebook page for your site, so that your fans can stay updated with your latest news.

6. Competition:

This is a highly important factor for link building. It’ll be better if you try to rank for a less competitive keyword rather than trying to rank for a highly competitive keyword. You can find the competition for various keywords via tools like Market Samurai or Keyword Blaze. Less competitive keywords will be easier to rank for and it takes much lesser time. You can dominate the search engines for that keyword in a matter of days.

But make sure you don’t build such bad links to your own site. It will not help you rank better. Identifying bad websites can be a hard job.
